City Home

The type of deck you decide to build on any style of Brampton homes, for instance, will be defined by the type of home you are building that deck onto. In this series of articles, we are going to take a look at some things to consider when you are building a deck in order to further your enjoyment of different residences. If you are looking at a Mississauga home for sale, you may notice that the appeal of a property goes up with the addition of a nice deck space. In each of our articles, we will take a look at some categories of concern to the deck builder and give suggestions which should help you decide which type of deck is most suitable. We will start out with a home in the city.

Materials

If you own any Erin Mills homes you know that city living means that the materials you use on your deck will be more prone to wear and tear than they would be anywhere else. You are likely to see heavier traffic on a deck added to a city home, simply because it is easier for people to come over. That traffic will take the form of your friends, your spouse's friends, your children's friends, and all manner of other guests. And you want that deck to last all the way to purchasing the vacant waterfront properties in Ontario you have been planning for your retirement.

The result of more traffic will be more friction on the surface of your deck, which means that the materials you choose for construction should be more durable than with another type of deck. Concrete is often the material of choice, although it is nice to have some kind of finish on top of that for the summertime. If you don't like concrete because it doesn't suit your Markham home, there are several types of hardwood that should bear up nicely even under heavy foot traffic.

Size

Life in the city means more restricted living spaces, so you are also going to have to have a deck that is smaller than that in a rural setting. You don't want your deck to overpower the rest of your yard, but rather to complement it. Make sure you get the dimensions right before you go out and buy the decking materials that you will need to construct it! It would be quite the hassle to get all of the supplies to your Playter Estates home and then realize you need to return something!

Regulations

All cities have by-laws, and many of these by-laws directly affect the type of addition you can put on your home. A city home deck may have to exist within well defined parameters, so this is another point you need to check up on before you start to construct.
